Then the pattern is removed and the gates are cut in. The mold is closely inspected for any loose sand that may create holes in the finished product.

One person skims the impurities off the metal, as it is being poured into the mold. Extra weight has been placed on the mold to keep it from lifting.
When the metal reaches the proper temperature, it is then poured into the pouring ladle. The proper temperature varies from 2150 F.--2300 F. depending on the metal being used.
The sand is removed from the plaque.
After the metal has cooled, the mold is opened and the casting is removed.
